No Man, Angel or the Son Knows the Hour - Mark 13:32

Mark wrote how Jesus told His disciples to, “learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you in like manner, when you shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.” Jesus added, “Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done. Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away”, and in chapter thirteen and verse thirty-two of his book, Mark shared how Jesus said, “of that day and that hour knows no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father”, where we read:

But of that day and that hour knows no man,

no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

The verse reads, “But of that day and that hour knows no man, ...” Mark began with the words, “But of that day” or “moreover and pertaining to that particular time period between sunrise and sunset” “and that hour” which means “and that particular hour within a day” “knows no man” or “understands, perceive and discerns not one person whether male or female”. Mark shared how Jesus said no one “knows” the “day or hour” of these things to come.

The verse continues, “... no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. Mark added the words, “no, not the angels” which means “neither in no way do God's messengers and envoys” “which are in heaven” or “who dwell in the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings”, “neither the Son” which refers to “no and in no way does the Son of God who is Jesus know the day or the hour”, “but the Father” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding, moreover and God the originator and transmitter of all life and beings”. Mark shared how Jesus said not even the “angels” or Jesus Himself knew the timing of all these things coming to pass.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus affirmed that nobody knows the exact day or hour when all these things will come to pass. Only God the Father knows, and although there are “signs” leading up to the “coming of the Lord”, no one knows when that time will be. Since Jesus ascended into heaven after He was raised from the dead, God's desire throughout the ages is for every generation to be in expectation of Jesus' return. Although almost two thousand years have passed since that promise was made, it shall come come to pass. Those who are wise will not only yield themselves in faith and trust in Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, but will also be looking for Him to appear at any time. “Even so come, Lord Jesus”. (See Revelation 22:20)

Next time Mark shares how Jesus says, “Take you heed, watch and pray: for you know not when the time is”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
