Erring by Not Knowing the Scriptures - Mark 12:24

Mark wrote how, “Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed. And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise. And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also. In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty-four of his book, Mark shared how Jesus questioned, “do you not therefore err, because you know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?” where we read:

And Jesus answering said unto them, Do you not therefore err,

because you know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

The verse reads, “And Jesus answering said unto them, Do you not therefore err, ... Mark began with the words, “and Jesus” which means “and the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “answering” or “responded and began to speak and” “said” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto them” or “to the Sadducees”, “do you not therefore err” which means “do the Sadducees themselves then, wherefore and these things being so go astray, are deceived and are lead aside from the right way”. Mark shared how Jesus responded to the “Sadducees” by telling them they were “lead away from the right way”.

The verse continues, because you know not the scriptures, neither the power of God? Mark added the word, “because” which means “since and on account that” “you know not the scriptures” or “you Sadducees have no knowledge, understanding, perception or definite meaning of the certain portion or section of the Holy Scripture”, “neither the power” which means “no and not in any way the strength, inherent power and influence” “of God” which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Mark shared how Jesus told the “Sadducees” they did not know the Holy written word of God nor the “power” within His word.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus began to respond to the “Sadducees' story” by referring to the “Holy Scriptures” and the “power of God”. Rather than lower Himself to simply address their question, Jesus appealed to their knowledge of God's word and power. God the Father desires to have a loving personal relationship with everyone who will “believe and trust” in His Son Jesus, and when they align with the “Scriptures” and the “power of God”, they shall know all of them point to His Son Jesus.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus says, “when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
