Great Stones and Rows of Timber - Ezra 6:4

In the book of Ezra, Ezra said“there was found at Achmetha, in the palace that is in the province of the Medes, a roll, and therein was a record thus written: In the first year of Cyrus the king the same Cyrus the king made a decree concerning the house of God at Jerusalem, Let the house be builded, the place where they offered sacrifices, and let the foundations thereof be strongly laid; the height thereof threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof threescore cubits”, and in chapter six and verse four of Ezra, Ezra shared about, “three rows of great stones, and a row of new timber” where we read,

With three rows of great stones, and a row of new timber:

and let the expenses be given out of the king's house:

The verse reads, With three rows of great stones, and a row of new timber:” Ezra began with the words, “with three rows of great stones” which means “by the use of three courses or layers of large, massive and weighty rocks”, “and a row”which means “and a course or layer” “of new timber” or “of fresh beams or wood”. Ezra shared how “Cyrus'” command to rebuild the “temple at Jerusalem” included how three layers of large rocks were to be used along with another layer of wooden beams.

The verse goes on to say, and let the expenses be given out of the king's house: Ezra continued with the words, “and let the expenses be given out” or “and allow and permit the outgo, outlay and cost be dispersed and distributed” “of the king's house” which means “from the royal ruler and leader's habitation, abode and dwelling place”. Ezra shared how “Darius” ordered that the outlay for the building of the temple would be dispersed from his dwelling place.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra how the temple was to be constructed with “three layers of large stones or rocks” with one layer of wooden beams in between them, and “Darius” was going to pay for all the necessary costs for doing so. God's plan was coming together, and those who were foreigners were now being used to bear the “expenses”. God loves the people of Israel, and His plan was for them to reestablish worship in Jerusalem. He also has a plan for our lives, and because He loves us, He gave His Only Begotten Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and use us in His Kingdom while He supplies the resources from those whom He chooses to accomplish His will.

Next time Ezra shares what to do with, “the golden and silver vessels of the house of God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
