Mark wrote when Jesus and His disciples, “came near to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sent forth two of his disciples. And said unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as you be entered into it, you shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him. And if any man say unto you, Why do you this? say you that the Lord has need of him; and straightway he will send him hither. And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him. And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do you, loosing the colt? And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go. And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him. And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed them in the way. And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord”, and in chapter eleven and verse ten of his book, Mark shared how people exclaimed, “Hosanna in the highest” where we read:
Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that comes in the name of the Lord:
Hosanna in the highest.
The verse reads, “Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that comes in the name of the Lord:” Mark began with the word, “Blessed” which means “praise, celebration, prosperous and happiness” “be the kingdom” or “exists the royal power, kingship, dominion and rule” “of our father David” which means “ of the people's ancestor and progenitor King David whose name means beloved”, “that comes” or “who appears, arrives and makes entrance” “in the name of the Lord” which means “that which is used for everything which the name covers, everything the thought or feeling of which is aroused in the mind by mentioning, hearing and remembering belonging to he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah”. Mark shared how the people continued their praise and celebration of Jesus as they announced “blessing” upon Him whom they recognized as the chosen One of God's Kingdom.
The verse goes on to say, “Hosanna in the highest.” Mark continued with the word, “Hosanna” which is an exclamation of adoration and means “Save now” “in the highest” or “in the most high regions”. Mark shared how the people exclaimed once again for Jesus to “Save” them now.
When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how the people continued to give “praise and honor” to Jesus as He road upon the “donkey”. This fulfillment of prophesy (See Zechariah 9:9) was the people of Israel's “King” coming to them. God had a plan for the “salvation” of mankind through His Son Jesus so they might live with Him forever, and when the people gave Jesus “praise” and told Him to “Save now”, they were recognizing Jesus was their Messiah and Christ.
Next time Mark shares how “Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
