All the Apostles had Done - Luke 9:10

The beloved physician Luke wrote how, “Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead. And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again. And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him”, and in chapter nine and verse ten of his book Luke shared how “the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done” where we read:

And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.

The verse reads, “And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. Luke began with the words, “and the apostles” or “and Jesus' sent out disciples”, “when they were returned” which means “at the time and moment Jesus' apostles came back to Him”, “told him all they had done” or “declared everything they, Jesus' disciples, performed”. Luke shared how as soon as Jesus' “disciples”, now known as “apostles” because they were “sent out”, came back to Him, they shared everything they did while they were ministering.

The verse goes on to say, “And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.” Luke continued with the words, “and he took them” which means “and Jesus carried and brought His disciples”, “and went aside privately” or “and departed and went forth privately” “into a desert place” which means “to a solitary, lonely, desolate and uninhabited place” “belonging to the city” or “within the dwelling place and habitation” “called Bethsaida” which means “named Bethsaida which means house of fish”. Luke shared how Jesus took His disciples away privately to a “solitary and isolated” place around the city of “Bethsaida”.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus' “disciples” came back to Him with a report on all they did as they ministered. Jesus' response was to take them away to an “isolated desert place” near “Bethsaida”. After ministering among people for a certain time, Jesus knew His “disciples” needed to be alone with Him. Those who minister for Jesus Christ need to be “alone with God” so they may not only be “recharged”, but also to allow the Lord to minister to them. God wants to have a personal relationship with every person, and when they yield their lives to Him as their “Savior and Lord”, not only will they minister for Him, but they will enjoy times of refreshment with Him as well.

Next time Luke shares when the people, “knew it” they “followed him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
