The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels”, and in chapter nine and verse twenty-seven of his book Luke shared how there were, “some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God” where we read:
But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death,
till they see the kingdom of God.
The verse reads, “But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, ...” Luke began with the words, “but I tell you” or “however Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed to His disciples” “of a truth” which means “pertaining to reality and most certainly”, “there be some standing here” or “there existed a few of the disciples set, put, fixed and firmly establish at the place Jesus was”, “which shall not taste” which means “who will not partake, perceive, experience or feel” “of death” or “of the perishing, lifeless and inanimate”. Luke shared how Jesus told His disciples that “some of them” would not experience “death” until the following occurred.
The verse continues, “... till they see the kingdom of God.” Luke added the words, “till they see” which means “until those particular disciples beheld, perceived and took heed with their eyes” “the kingdom of God” or “the royal power, kingship, dominion and rule belonging to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Luke shared how those who Jesus said would not “taste of death” would endure until they “beheld” God's Kingdom.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus declared there would be some of His disciples would not “die” until they saw God's Kingdom. We shall learn how this came to be in the next few verses, but for now let it suffice us that God desires to share His Kingdom with everyone who will believe and trust in His Son Jesus. Those who are wise will yield their lives to Jesus and allow Him to show them God's Kingdom in His perfect time.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus, “took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
