The beloved physician Luke wrote how, “ the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, where he himself would come. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray you therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way”, and in chapter ten and verse five of his book Luke shared how Jesus says, “into whatsoever house you enter, first say, Peace be to this house” where we read:
And into whatsoever house you enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
The verse reads, “And into whatsoever house you enter, first say, ...” Luke began with the words, “and into whatsoever house you enter” or “and whatever dwelling place, abode or habitation the disciples arose and came into”, “first say” which means “they were chiefly and principally to utter, declare and proclaim” the following words. Luke shared how Jesus instructed His seventy disciples to “speak” the following words when they “came into” any “home” upon their journey.
The verse goes on to say, “... Peace be to this house.” Luke added the word, “Peace” which means “calmness, safety, security and tranquility” “be to this house” or “be to that particular dwelling place, abode or habitation”. Luke shared how Jesus disciples were to proclaim “calmness and tranquility” to be upon the “homes” they entered.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn more of the instructions Jesus gave to His “seventy disciples” prior to their being dispatched to share about the Kingdom of God. He told them to pronounce “peace” upon the “houses” they entered. “Peace” and “tranquility” from God is one of the greatest benefits people within a home may enjoy, and Jesus wanted His “disciples” to bless people with it. God loves people, and Jesus is known as the “Prince of Peace”. When they receive Him into their lives He will give them “peace” even in the most dire circumstances and situations.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “if the son of peace be there , your peace shall rest upon it”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
