Luke the beloved physician wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you”, and in chapter eleven and verse ten of his book Luke shared how Jesus said, “every one that asks receives … seeks finds” and “knocks it shall be opened” where we read:
For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened.
The verse reads, “For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds;” Luke began with the words, “for every one” or “because, since and on account that each, the whole and all people” “that asks” which means “who begs, craves, desires and requires” “receives” or “lays hold of, claims, procures, seizes and apprehends”; “and he that seeks” which means “and Jesus' disciple who aims at, strives after, demands and endeavors” “finds” or “comes and hits upon, discovers, understands and detects what they are looking for”. Luke shared how Jesus said “every” disciple of Him who “craves and desires” something actually “procures and apprehends” it, and “every” disciple of Him who “strives after and demands” something will “discover and detect” what they are looking for.
The verse goes on to say, “and to him that knocks it shall be opened.” Luke continued with the word, “and to him that knocks” or “and the the disciple of Jesus who raps upon the door” “it shall be opened” or “will find the door standing open for them”. Luke shared how the disciple of Jesus who “raps” upon a “door” will discover it to be “standing wide open” for them.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see how there is a direct relationship between the “disciple of Jesus” and their “asking, seeking and knocking”. To be a disciple of Jesus, a person must “deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (See Luke 9:23), and since they have yielded their lives to Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they will submit to “His” desires for them and not just their own. God wants to give everyone the opportunity to know Him personally through His Son Jesus, and when they believe and trust in Him, everything they “ask, seek and knock” for will be provided according to His best interest for their lives.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus asks a question concerning, “bread, a stone, fish and serpents”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
