Much People Meet Jesus - Luke 9:37

Luke the beloved physician wrote, “And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: Who appeared in glory, and spoke of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. While he thus spoke, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen”, and in chapter nine and verse thirty-seven of his book Luke shared how, “the next day … much people met him” where we read:

And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met him.

The verse reads, “And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, ... Luke began with the words, “and it came to pass” or “and it happened and came into existence”, “that on the next day” which means “that upon the successive in order sunrise to sunset”, “when they were come down” or “at the time Jesus, Peter, James and John descended” “from the hill” which means “ were separated from the mountain”. Luke shared how Jesus and His three disciples descended from the mountain on the day after God spoke and Moses and Elijah departed.

The verse continues, “... much people met him.” Luke added the words, “much people” which means “a large group or crowd of people” “met him” or “met Jesus”. Luke shared how a large group of people “met” Jesus when He and His disciples came down from the mountain.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus' ministry continued as soon as He and His disciples came down from the mountain. Jesus complied with His Father's instructions concerning His service to people, and when He completed His time upon the “mountain”, He descended to find a large group of people waiting for Him. God loves people to come to Him through His Son Jesus, and when they desire to “meet” Him, He is always willing to receive them.

Next time Luke shares how, “a man of the company cried out”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
