Jesus' Countenance Altered - Luke 9:29

The beloved physician Luke wrote, “And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray”, and in chapter nine and verse twenty-nine of his book Luke shared as Jesus, “prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered” where we read:

And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered,

and his raiment was white and glistering.

The verse reads, “And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, ... Luke began with the words, “and as he prayed” or “and while and during the time when Jesus was worshiping, supplicating and making orations to His Father God”, “the fashion of his countenance” which means “the external or outward appearance, form, figure and shape of Jesus' face” “was altered” or “was transformed”. Luke shared that during the time when Jesus was “praying”, the “appearance” of His “face” was “transformed”.

The verse continues, “... and his raiment was white and glistering.” Luke added the words, “and his raiment” which means “and Jesus' clothing and apparel” “was white” or “was brilliant from dazzling whiteness” “and glistering” which means “and shining, radiant and flashing like lightning”. Luke shared how Jesus' outer garments became “dazzling white” and “radiant like lightning”.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus was “transfigured” as He “prayed” upon the mountain. Not only was His “face” changed, but His garments became so “white” they were like “flashing lighting”. This alteration of Jesus' physical body was ametamorphosis”, and which caused His “disciples to see Him in the glory of God's Kingdom”. There is a “spiritual” world that is beyond the physical the earth, and when Jesus was “transformed” on this mountain, He entered into the “spiritual and eternal world” where God desires every person to be. Those who yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” should pay close attention to what occurred during Jesus' “prayer” because their “faith and trust” in Jesus will lead them to this “Kingdom of God” as well.

Next time Luke shares how, “there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
