The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus' disciple John told Jesus, “Master, we saw one casting out devils in your name; and we forbade him, because he follows not with us”, and in chapter nine and verse fifty of his book Luke shared how Jesus said, “forbid him not” where we read:
And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.
The verse reads, “And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not:” Luke began with the words, “and Jesus” or “and Jesus whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “said unto him” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed to John”, “forbid him not” or “do not hinder, prevent or stop the man who was casting out demons in Jesus' name”. Luke shared how Jesus told His disciple John not to “hinder or prevent” the man from “casting out demons” in His name.
The verse continues, “for he that is not against us is for us.” Luke added the words, “for he that is not against us” which means “because, since and on account that the person who is not in opposition to Jesus and His disciples” “is for us” or “exists as a person on behalf of and for the sake of Jesus and His disciples”. Luke shared how Jesus told “John” the person who is “not in opposition” to He and His disciples is actually working on their behalf.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus redirected “John” and the other disciples' thoughts concerning people who were working alongside Him. People who align with the purpose and plan of the Kingdom of God are with Jesus and not “against” Him. God desires every person to “align” with Him through His Son Jesus, and when they align with Him, Jesus commends them and prevents others from “hindering” the work they do.
Next time Luke shares about Jesus, “the time was come that he should be received up”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
