I Will Arise and Go to My Father - Luke 15:18

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus said, “A certain man had two sons. And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me. And he divided unto them his living. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!”, and in chapter fifteen and verse eighteen of his book Luke wrote how Jesus said the son will decide, “I will arise and go to my father, and will say … I have sinned” where we read:

I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father,

I have sinned against heaven, and before you,

The verse reads, “I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, ... Luke began with the words, “I will arise” or “I, the younger son, will raise myself and stand up” “and go to my father” which means “and depart and leave toward the younger son's male progenitor and immediate ancestor”, “and will say unto him” or “and I, the younger son, will utter, declare and proclaim to his father”, “Father” which means “male progenitor and immediate ancestor or dad” the following words. Luke shared how Jesus said the younger son would determine to “arise and go” to His “father” and “proclaim” the following words.

The verse goes on to say, “... I have sinned against heaven, and before you,” Luke continued with the words, “I have sinned” or “I, the younger son, have erred, been mistaken, wandered from the path of uprightness and honor and done wrong” “against heaven” which means “in opposition to the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings”, “and before you” or “and in front and in the presence of the younger son's father”. Luke shared how Jesus said the younger son understood that he “erred and did wrong” not only against his “father”, but against “heaven” as well.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see how this younger son not only admitted his error, but also determined to go to his “father” and “heaven” in repentance. God loves the “humbled” soul, and those who recognize their error and need for Him to intervene in their lives will submit themselves to His Son Jesus to be their “Savior and Lord”. Jesus “saves” people from their “errors and sins”, and He provides for them as their “Lord” by directing their steps. Those who are wise will admit their “error and wrong”, humble themselves before God, understand they have “sinned against heaven and others” and submit themselves to Jesus who will gladly receive and provide for them.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says the son declares he is, “no more worthy to be called your son: make me as one of your hired servants”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
