In Psalms chapter ten David asks, “Why stand you afar off, O LORD?why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?”, and in chapter ten and verse two David said, “the wicked in his pride does persecute the poor:” where we read,
The wicked in his pride does persecute the poor:
let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.
The verse begins, “The wicked in his pride does persecute the poor:” David began with the words, “the wicked in his pride” which means “the person who is a criminal, guilty of sin and hostile to God in swelling, haughtiness and highness” “does persecute” or “burns, inflames, kindles and pursues hotly” “the poor” which means “the afflicted, needy, weak, humble and lowly”. David said the “sinful person who is hostile toward God” hotly pursues after people who are “afflicted, needy and weak”.
The verse continues, “let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.” David added the words, “let them be taken” or “allow and permit the wicked people to be caught, seized and arrested” “in the devices” which means “within the purposes, plots and evil discretions” “that they have imagined” or “that the wicked have esteemed, invented, reckoned and regarded”. David cried out for the “wicked” to be “caught and seized” within their own evil plots which they have conceived.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David knew how “wicked” people treated those who were less advantaged. They abusively took measures to hotly pursue the weak and afflicted, and David desired that they be “seized” by their own “evil” plans. God knows the thoughts and intents of the hearts of all people, (See Hebrews 4:12), and His word reveals whether they align with His ways or their own. God loves people, and He gave His Bible to share how He knows them and has a better way to live than their own. God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of mankind which separated them from Him, and when we yield ourselves to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us eternal life and begin to change our lives to live according to His righteous ways. Without a relationship with Jesus, a person is left to their own thoughts and ways, and many times those ways afflict and take advantage of the weak and afflicted.
Next time David says, “the wicked boasts of his heart's desire”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
