The Wicked Boasts of His Heart's Desire - Psalms 10:3

In Psalms chapter ten David asks, “Why stand you afar off, O LORD? why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? The wicked in his pride does persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined”, and in chapter ten and verse three David said, “the wicked boasts of his heart's desire” where we read,

For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire, and blesses the covetous, whom the LORD abhors.

The verse begins, For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire, ...” David began with the words, “for the wicked” which means “because, since and on account that the criminal, guilty one and person who is hostile to God” “boasts of his heart's desire” or “brags, praises, commends and glorifies his, the wicked person's, own soul's passion, lust, wish and covetousness”. David shared how the “wicked” person “brags” about the passions within his or her soul.

The verse goes on to say,and blesses the covetous, whom the LORD abhors.David continued with the words, “and blesses the covetous” or “and kneels to, salutes and congratulates people who finish, complete, accomplish and violently make gain of”, “whom the LORD” which means “that Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “abhors” or “spurns, contemns and despises”. David wrote how the “wicked” person praises and congratulates people who violently make gain of others, however, Jehovah God despises them.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how David did not have much good to say about “wicked” people who take advantage of others. He also noted that Jehovah God despises this behavior. God knows that all people have “sin” in their lives, and as long as sin remains, people will be separated from a personal relationship with Him and think like these “wicked” people. God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of the whole world, and He raised Him from the grave three days later. Anyone who receives Jesus into their lives will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. He begins to change their souls to think like Him, act like Him and be like Him. Without a relationship with Jesus, a person will “praise” the “covetous person”, and congratulate them for their accomplishments, but with a relationship with Jesus, they will give all honor, praise and glory to God Almighty who cares for people whom the “wicked” despise.

Next time David says, “The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
