No Flesh Justified by the Deeds of the Law Romans 3:20

Paul the apostle told the Jews in Rome, “Now we know that what things soever the law says, it says to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God”, and in chapter three and verse twenty of Romans, Paul shared how, “no flesh” “shall be justified in his sight” where we read:

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight:
for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
The verse begins, Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: Paul began with the word, “therefore” which means “on this account and because” “by the deeds” or “through the business, employment, undertaking and that which any one is occupied” “of the law” which refers to “the rule producing a state approved of God” “there shall no flesh” which means “no physical or carnal being shall” “be justified” or “be rendered righteous, such as he ought to be, show, exhibit, evince, declare, pronounce and exist as he ought to be” “in his sight” which means “within the presence and sight of God” . Paul concluded that no one could be “rendered righteous” within the sight of God by “employing” the “rule of God”.

The verse goes on to say, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.Paul added the words, “for by the law” which refers to “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then and verily through the rule producing a state approved of God” “is the knowledge” or “is the precise, correct and full discernment and acknowledgement” “of sin” which means “of missing the mark, error, being mistaken and wrong”. Paul shared how the “law's” purpose was to show people what it means to “miss God's mark”.

When we meditate upon these words of Paul, we see how no one is “rendered righteous” by attempting to keep God's “law”. Not one person is able to follow “the law of God” perfectly, and therefore no one is “justified” in His “presence”. The “law” provided the “knowledge” of God's “rule”, and once that knowledge is gained, those who know it, discover they cannot keep it. This causes people to seek for One who is able to follow God's law, and only Jesus fulfilled it. (For he has made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” 2 Corinthians 5:21) Everyone who accepts Jesus Christ as their “Savior and Lord” has received the only one who is able to “make them righteous before God”, and when they yield their lives to Him, they shall not only receive “everlasting life” but also be “justified” before God.

Next time Paul tells the people in Rome, the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
