Slanderously Reported Romans 3:8

Paul the apostle asked the Jews in Rome, “how shall God judge the world?”, and he added, “For if the truth of God has more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner?” In chapter three and verse eight of Romans, Paul shared how he and his companions were, “slanderously reported” where we read:

And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,)
Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.

The verse begins, “And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,)” Paul began with the words, “and not rather” which means “and not just as, according or in proportion as”, “(as we be slanderously reported” which means “like Paul and his companions were spoken of reproachfully, railed at, reviled, calumniate, evil spoke of and blasphemed”, “and as some” which refers to “and like certain ones” “affirm” or “make known one's thoughts and declare” “that we say” which means “that Paul and his companions utter, proclaim and declare”). In opposition to “certain people's” “blasphemous declarations”, Paul and his companions did not do as he is about to declare even though other “evil speaking” people said so.

The verse goes on to say, “Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.” Paul added the words, “Let us do” which means “allow, permit and promote the making, producing, constructing and forming of” “evil” or “bad nature, wrong, wickedness, injury, perniciousness, destruction and baneful”, “that good” or “so usefulness, salutary, pleasantness, agreeableness and happiness” “may come” which means “appear, come into being, arise, be established and become known”? “whose damnation” or “whose decree, judgment, condemnation of sentence and wrong” “is just” which means “is according to righteousness”. The false “reporters” were declaring Paul and his companions were promoting “doing wickedness” so “pleasantness and happiness” would appear, and he shared how their “judgment to come” was “well-deserved”.

When we meditate upon these words of Paul, we see how some people were speaking falsehoods against Paul and his companions. They told others that Paul and his companions were promoting “evil” because “good” would come out of it. Paul declared their “judgment” from God is “righteous”, and because they live as though Jesus Christ never came to save people, Paul and his companions were “slanderously reported” upon. Lest we be among those who speak “evil” against others, let us receive Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Paul asks the people in Rome, “are we better than they?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
