His Ears Were Opened - Mark 7:35

Mark wrote how Jesus, “departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis. And they brought unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseeched him to put his hand upon him. And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue”, and in chapter seven and verse thirty-five of his book Mark wrote, “straightway his ears were opened” where we read:

And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.

The verse reads, “And straightway his ears were opened, ...Mark began with the words, “and straightway” which means “and immediately and forthwith” “his ears” or “the man who was deaf's physical ears for hearing” “were opened” which means “were opened thoroughly what had been closed”. Mark shared how the “deaf man” was immediately able to hear.

The verse goes on to say, “... and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. Mark continued with the words, “and the string” which means “and the band, shackle, ligament, chain and disability” “of his tongue” or “pertaining to the tongue-tied man” “was loosed” which means “was released, dissolved, destroyed and done away with”, “and he spake plain” or “and the man uttered sounds, talked and spoke rightly, clearly, correctly and in a straight manner”. Mark shared how the “ligament” which had the man's “tongue-tied” was released, and the man was able to talk “clearly”.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus had power over physical afflictions. Whether it was being “mute”, deaf or dumb”, Jesus could heal them all. No one else healed this man, and now he was made whole. Oh the joy he must have experienced when he could hear clearly and say what he desired to say in a correct manner. Jesus is able to make people “hear” who cannot “hear” Him spiritually as well, and those who do not speak to Him, He is able to bring them into a personal relationship. God loves people. Some people are physically impaired, and others are spiritually impaired. Either way, God sent His Son Jesus to be the One who is able to heal and make whole all who will believe and trust in Him.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus, “charged them that they should tell no man”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
