The People of Gennesaret Knew Jesus - Mark 6:54

Mark wrote at the time Jesus and His disciples, “had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore”, and in chapter six and verse fifty-four of his book, Mark wrote how the people in Gennesaret, “straightway … knew him” where we read:

And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him,

The verse reads, “And when they were come out of the ship, ...” Mark began with the words, “and when” which means “and at the time and moment” “they were come out” which means “Jesus and His disciples exited out” “of the ship” or “boat or sailing vessel”. Mark began to share what happened when Jesus and His disciples exited the boat in which they were sailing.

The verse continues, “... straightway they knew him,” Mark added the word, “straightway” which means “immediately and forthwith” “they knew him” or “the people within the area of “Gennesaret” understood, perceived, noticed and discerned who Jesus was”. Mark shared how the people in “Gennesaret” immediately “perceived” who Jesus was.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how the popularity of Jesus had spread to this area as well. The people within the region of “Gennesaret” saw Jesus and His disciples, they discerned who they were and began to act upon it. God loves people to know Him, and when they study the life of His Son Jesus and understand how He came to die for their sins so they might live with Him forever, the best response is to yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” to enjoy a personal relationship with God. .

Next time Mark shares how the people in Gennesaret, “ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
