One That Was Deaf - Mark 7:32

Mark wrote how Jesus, “departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee,

through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis”, and in chapter seven and verse thirty-two of his book, Mark wrote how, “they brought unto him one that was deaf” where we read:

And they brought unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech;

and they beseeched him to put his hand upon him.

The verse reads,And they brought unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech;Mark began with the words, “and they brought” which means “and the people carried and bore up” “unto him” or “to Jesus” “one that was deaf” which means “a man who was blunted in tongue, dumb and dull in hearing”, “and had an impediment” or “and had an impediment or was tongue-tied” “in his speech” which means “in the man's talking and spoke with difficulty”. Mark shared how the people within “Decapolis” carried a man to Jesus who could not hear and was “tongue-tied”.

The verse continues, and they beseeched him to put his hand upon him. Mark added the words, “and they beseeched him” which means “and the people who brought the man to Jesus begged, exhorted, entreated and encouraged Jesus” “to put his hand” or “to lay His physical hand” “upon him” which means “upon the man who was deaf and tongue-tied”. Mark shared how the people who brought the “deaf and tongue-tied” man to Jesus “begged” Him to lay His physical “hand” upon the man.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we discover how Jesus was widely known among the people. They knew He could simply “touch” someone who was impaired, and that person would be healed. They brought this man to Jesus because they believed He could heal him, so they “begged” Jesus to lay “His hand upon him”. God wants people to come to Him through His Son Jesus with their needs, and regardless of how great and difficult those needs seem, Jesus is able to “touch” them and make them whole. Those who are wise will realize the power of Jesus and yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus, “took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
