The Disciples Share Their Doings and Sayings with Jesus - Mark 6:30

Mark wrote how “Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly. And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee. And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever you wilt, and I will give it to you. And he swore unto her, Whatsoever you shall ask of me, I will give it to you, unto the half of my kingdom. And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist. And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that you give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist. And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her. And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison, And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother. And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb”, and in chapter six and verse thirty of his book, Mark wrote how “the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus” where we read:

And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things,

both what they had done, and what they had taught.

The verse reads, “And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things,” Mark continues with the words, “and the apostles” which means “and the delegates, messengers and ones sent forth with orders” “gathered themselves together” or “assembled, collected and drew together” “unto Jesus” which refers to “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation”, “and told him all things” which means “and brought tidings to, word to, report and proclamation to Jesus about everything that happened”. Mark shared how Jesus' “apostles” came back to Him and “told” Him everything that happened with them while they were preaching, healing and casting out unclean spirits.

The verse goes on to say, “... both what they had done, and what they had taught.” Mark continues with the words, “both what they had done” which means “also, indeed and even so the things they performed, produced, brought forth and bore”, “and what they had taught” or “and the things which Jesus' disciples instructed, delivered in didactic discourses and imparted in doctrine”. Mark shared how Jesus' disciples disclosed to Him not only the things they “performed” but also the things they “taught” to whomever they encountered.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how the “disciples” (who are now referred to by Mark as “apostles” or “sent out ones”) were excited to disclose to Jesus all they “did” and “taught” when they were out among people. We can imagine how they told Jesus with delight all in which they were involved, and to have experienced everything they did must have been a wonder for them. God desires to use people to share the “gospel” of His Kingdom with people everywhere, and when He gives them ability and authority to perform miracles, cast out unclean spirits and teach His word, they shall be in awe of what He does through their willing hearts and lives.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus told His disciples, “come you yourselves apart into a desert place”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
