Into the Borders of Tyre and Sidon - Mark 7:24

Mark wrote when Jesus, “was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable” about being defiled “and he said unto them, Are you so without understanding also? Do you not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without enters into the man, it cannot defile him. Because it enters not into his heart, but into the belly, and goes out into the draught, purging all meats? And he said, That which comes out of the man, that defiles the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and defile the man”, and in chapter seven and verse twenty-four of his book, Mark wrote how Jesus went “into the boarders of Tyre and Sidon” where we read:

And from there he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon,

and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid.

The verse reads,And from there he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, ...Mark began with the words, “and from there” which means “and departing and separating from the house in which Jesus was speaking to His disciples” “he arose” or “Jesus rose up”, “and went” which means “and left and departed” “into the borders” or “to the frontier, boundary and contiguous side” “of Tyre” which refers to “a Phoenician city on the Mediterranean very ancient, large, splendid, flourishing in commerce and powerful by land and sea whose name means a rock” “and Sidon” or “an ancient and wealthy city of Phoenicia on the east coast of the Mediterranean Sea which is less than twenty miles (30 km) north of Tyre whose name means hunting”. Mark shared how Jesus left the house where He taught His disciples and traveled to the “boundary” of the cities of “Tyre and Sidon”.

The verse goes on to say, “... and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid.” Mark continued with the words, “and entered” which means “and arrived, made entrance, and came” “into an house” or “in a dwelling place, abode and home”, “and would have no man know it” which means “and did not want any person whether male or female to have knowledge of or perceive that Jesus was in the home”: “but he could not” or “however, nonetheless, moreover and Jesus was unable and incapable to” “be hid” which means “kept secret, unaware and without knowing”. Mark shared how Jesus “came into” a home there, and did not want anyone to know about it. However, Jesus could not be not be kept “secret” or “without people knowing”.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus was on the move again. Jesus spread the “gospel” of the Kingdom of God in many areas in Israel. This time He went to “Tyre and Sidon” from where a group of people traveled to see Him before. (See Mark 3:8). Jesus desired to enter a home there without people knowing, but as usual He could not be “hidden”. Jesus was very popular, and word of Him being in the area spread quickly. God wants people to come to Him through His Son Jesus, and those who are wise will seek Him and receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” that they may forever be with God.

Next time Mark shares how, “a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
