The Parts of Dalmanutha - Mark 8:10

Mark wrote how Jesus fed “four thousand” people who might “faint in the way” if He sent them home without eating, and in chapter eight and verse ten of his book, Mark wrote how Jesus and His disciples, “came into the parts of Dalmanutha” where we read:

And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.

The verse reads,And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, ...Mark began with the words, “and straightway” which means “and immediately and forthwith” “he entered” or “Jesus stepped or went” “into a ship” which means “into a sailing vessel or boat” “with his disciples” or “alongside Jesus' pupils, students and attendants”. Mark shared how Jesus and His disciples entered a “sailing vessel” again.

The verse continues, ...and came into the parts of Dalmanutha. Mark added the words, “and came into” which means “and entered” “the parts” or “the particular pieces and portions” “of Dalmanutha” which refers to “a town on the west side of the Sea of Galilee, near Magdala which means slow firebrand”. Mark shared how the destination of Jesus and His disciples this time was on the “west side of the Sea of Galilee near Magdala” in a place in Palestine named “Dalmanutha”.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see Jesus and His disciples on the move again. This time, by “ship”, they traveled to the area know as “Dalmanutha” which was on the “west side of the Sea of Galilee”. God desires people everywhere in the world to know Him through His Son Jesus, and because He was constantly sailing from one city to another, Jesus was becoming widely known all around Israel. Those who are wise will understand that Jesus is available to them anywhere they are, and when they receive Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He promised to “never leave” them or “forsake” them. (See Hebrews 13:5)

Next time Mark shares how the Pharisees come to question Jesus again, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
