Tell No Man - Mark 7:36

Mark wrote how Jesus, “departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis. And they brought unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseeched him to put his hand upon him. And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue. And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain”, and in chapter seven and verse thirty-six of his book, Mark wrote how Jesus, “charged them that they should tell no man” where we read:

And he charged them that they should tell no man:

but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;

The verse reads,And he charged them that they should tell no man:Mark began with the words, “and he charged them” which means “and Jesus ordered, admonished and enjoined the people” “that they should tell” or “that the people were to speak about and disclose this to” “no man” which means “not one human being whether male or female”. Mark shared how Jesus once again “admonishes” the people not to “disclose” the miracle He performed on the “deaf and tongue-tied” man.

The verse continues, but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it; Mark added the words, “but the more” which means “however, nevertheless, moreover and the greater degree with which” “he charged them” or “Jesus ordered, admonished and enjoined the people”, “so much the more a great deal” which means “to a greater degree, more readily, sooner, more abundantly and far more” “they published it” or “the people heralded, proclaimed openly and told others about the miracle”. Mark shared how the people who saw the miracle performed on the “deaf and tongue-tied” man began to tell people everywhere about what Jesus did even though He “ordered and admonished” them not to do so.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how the popularity and fame of Jesus was widely spread by people who observed His miracles. Jesus healed the “deaf and tongue-tied” man, and those who saw it, broadcast it. Jesus attempted to keep them from telling others, but the more He “charged” them, the more they told. God loves people to be excited about Him, and those who have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus should will with others their experience with Him. Those who carefully consider this crowd should be inspired to spread the word of Jesus for all the world to know.

Next time Mark shares how the, “were beyond measure astonished”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
