No Children's Bread for Dogs - Mark 7:27

Mark wrote how, “a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of” Jesus “and came and fell at his feet: The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter”, and in chapter seven and verse twenty-seven of his book, Mark wrote how Jesus told the woman, “it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs” where we read:

But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled:

for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.

The verse reads,But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled:Mark began with the words, “but Jesus” which means “nevertheless, more over and Jesus whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “said unto her” or “uttered, declared and proclaimed to the “Syrophenician woman”, “let the children” which means “permit and allow the offspring, dependents and daughters and sons” “first be filled” or “chiefly, principally and at the beginning be fulfilled and satisfied in desire”. Mark shared how Jesus told the woman that “children” at the beginning should have their “desires” filled.

The verse continues, for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.” Mark added the words, “for it is not meet” which means “because, since and on account that not satisfying is improper, suitable, choice, precious, commendable and admirable” “to take the children's bread” or “to lay hold of, carry away, claim and procure the offspring's food composed of flour mixed with water and bread”, “and to cast it” which means “and throw and scatter the bread” “unto the dogs” which refers to “little puppies”. Mark shared how Jesus said it was not proper to take food that is intended for “children” and “throw” it to “little puppies”.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus responded to this woman whose daughter was demon possessed. Rather than capitulate to her request, Jesus drew her into a conversation concerning who “deserved” His blessings and in what priority they were to be given. This may seem non-caring from Jesus at first, however, He had an idea in mind. Sometimes God will allow time and questions to bring a person closer to Him so He can do a work in their lives. Jesus continues to draw people to Himself today, and those who are wise will yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” and trust that He will supply their every need.

Next time Mark shares how the woman said to Jesus, “yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
