A Rumor Throughout Judaea - Luke 7:17

Luke the beloved physician wrote, “And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people. Now when he came near to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto you, Arise. And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God has visited his people”, and in chapter seven and verse seventeen of his book Luke shared how, “this rumor of him went forth throughout all Judaea” where we read:

And this rumor of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about.

The verse reads, “And this rumor of him went forth throughout all Judaea, ...” Luke began with the words, “and this rumor of him” or “and the word, concept, idea, decree, mandate and saying” “went forth” which means “spread” “throughout all Judaea” or “in each, every, the whole and everywhere within the southern portion of Palestine lying on this side of the Jordan and the Dead Sea, to distinguish it from Samaria, Galilee, Peraea and Idumaea”. Luke shared how the word about Jesus spread in all the land of “Judaea”.

The verse continues, “... and throughout all the region round about.” Luke added the words, “and throughout all the region” which means “and in each, every, the whole and everywhere that was circumjacent and in the vicinity of Judaea” “round about” or “all around them”. Luke shared how the word concerning Jesus spread to the neighboring places surrounding “Judaea” as well.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see how the fame of Jesus spread everywhere. Jesus was a wonderful anomaly, and when He raised this “widow's son” back to life again, people knew He was someone special. We see how His ministry was becoming well known, and because people spread the word about Him, multitudes were becoming aware of His power. God wants the whole world to know about His Son Jesus. He wants everyone to come to the saving knowledge of His Son Jesus, and when they believe and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive their sins and grant them “everlasting life”. Let all the world know, Jesus Saves and is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (See 2 Peter 3:9)

Next time Luke shares how, “the disciples of John showed him of all these things”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
