Your Faith Has Saved You - Luke 7:50

Luke the beloved physician how Jesus told Simon the Pharisee, “There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, You have rightly judged. And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, See you this woman? I entered into your house, you gave me no water for my feet: but she has washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. You gave me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in has not ceased to kiss my feet. My head with oil you did not anoint: but this woman has anointed my feet with ointment. Wherefore I say unto you, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little. And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven. And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgives sins also?, and in chapter seven and verse fifty of his book Luke shared how Jesus says to the woman, “your faith has saved you” where we read:

And he said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go in peace.

The verse reads, “And he said to the woman, Your faith has saved you;” Luke began with the word, “and he said” or “and Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed” “to the woman” which means “to the female human being who washed His feet with her tears, dried them with her hair and anointed them”, “your faith has saved you” or “woman, your moral conviction of the truth, trust and belief in the truth has rescued you from danger and destruction”. Luke shared Jesus how told the woman that her “trust and belief” in Him rescued her from “danger and destruction”.

The verse goes on to say, “go in peace.” Luke continued with the word, “go” which means “depart, continue and leave” “in peace” or “in a state of harmony, accord and tranquility”. Luke shared how Jesus instructed the woman to leave in a “tranquil state of harmony”.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus acknowledged the woman's “faith” as He told her it was the “basis” of her “salvation”. This woman could now depart from Jesus and the others within Simon's home in a state of tranquility because the “Prince of Peace” forgave her sins. Those who humbly come to Jesus and ask forgiveness for their “errors and wrongs” will have their desire granted, and God's “peace” will come over them. The salvation of mankind was Jesus' purpose for coming to the world, and even as the angel of God told Jesus' earthly father Joseph, and you shall call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins” (See Matthew 1:21), even so Jesus followed the directive and purpose for His life. This woman went away in “peace”, and all who follow her example will know the “peace” of God as well.

Next time we begin a new chapter as Luke shares how Jesus, “went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
