Seed That Fell Among Thorns - Luke 8:7

Luke the beloved physician shared how Jesus said, “A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture”, and in chapter eight and verse seven of his book Luke shared how Jesus said some seed, “fell among thorns” where we read:

And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.

The verse reads, “And some fell among thorns;” Luke began with the words, “and some fell” or “and a portion of the seed the sower sowed descended and lit” “among thorns” which means “beside, within and along bramble bushes, briers and thorny bushes”. Luke shared how a portion of the seed sown by the farmer “descended” upon “briar bushes”.

The verse goes on to say, “and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.” Luke continued with the words, “and the thorns” which means “and the bramble bushes, briers and thorny bushes” “sprung up with it” or “grew, shot forth and germinated with the seed”, “and choked it” which means “and suffocated and stifled the seed by drowning or overgrowth”. Luke shared how Jesus said the “thorny bushes” “suffocated” the seed sown by the farmer.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we can imagine how the vines and thorny parts of the “bramble bush or briers” encircled the growing plants from the seed that was sown among them. Anyone who has experiences the strangling power of vines and thorny shoots encircling other plants know exactly what Jesus meant. Sometimes things of the world enter a person's life and “choke out” any growth they may have experienced in their relationship with God. God desires close fellowship with every person who will yield their life to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Those who are wise will recognize when other things, “brier bushes”, enter their lives and “suffocate” their fellowship with the Lord God Almighty.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus tells how some of the seed, “fell on good ground”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
