Much People Gathered Again - Luke 8:4

Luke the beloved physician shared how Jesus, “went throughout every city and village, preaching and showing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him. And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance”, and in chapter eight and verse four of his book Luke shared how, “much people were gathered together” where we read:

And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city,

he spoke by a parable:

The verse reads, “And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, ...” Luke began with the words, “and when much people” or “and at the time and moment a large group of people both male and female” “were gathered together” which means “were collected together and assembled”, “and were come to him” or “and arose and approached Jesus” “out of every city” which means “who traveled, journeyed and traversed from every region, habitation and town”. Luke shared how large crowds of people assembled around Jesus from “cities” all around.

The verse continues, “he spoke by a parable:” Luke added words, “he spoke” which means “Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed” “by a parable” or “through an earthly story that has a heavenly meaning”. Luke shared how Jesus began to teach the people who assembled by employing another “parable”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus took the opportunity to teach the people who “gathered” around Him. People traveled to see Jesus, and they were interested in what He had to say. God wants everyone to come to and believe in His Son Jesus, and when they do, they will desire to hear what He has to say. Jesus taught in “earthly stories with heavenly meanings” because He wanted people to be familiar with His “earthly” story, but also to receive the “heavenly” or “spiritual” principles behind them. Let all who read these words be “gathered” around the word of God and allow Him to speak to their hearts whatever He desires.

Next time we see Luke shares how Jesus says, “a sower went out to sow his seed”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
