Another Recognizes Jesus - Luke 22:58

Luke the beloved physician wrote how the religious leaders took Jesus, “and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off. And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them. But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him. And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse fifty-eight of his book Luke shared, “after a little while another saw him, and said, you are also of them” where we read:

And after a little while another saw him, and said, you are also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.

The verse reads, “And after a little while another saw him, and said, ... Luke began with the words, “and after a little while or “and a short time after the first maid saw Peter” “another saw him” which means “one other young maiden observed, notice and perceived Peter”, “and said” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed” the following words. Luke shared how “another maiden” recognized Peter and uttered the following words to him.

The verse goes on to say, “... you are also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not. Luke added the words, “you are also” which means “you, sir, are even so and indeed” “of them” which means “belonging to the disciples of Jesus”. Luke shared how the second maiden identified Peter as belonging to the disciples of Jesus.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we discover another young woman who saw “Peter” and told him she knew he was a disciple of Jesus. Jesus told Peter he would “deny” him three times, and though Peter thought he would never do so, this was his second opportunity to admit he knew who Jesus was. God knew Peter would “fail”, and He still sent His Son Jesus to save “Peter” from his sin. God does the same for every person who will believe and trust in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and when they yield, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life in Heaven.

Next time Luke shares, “about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
