Jesus Blindfolded and Stricken in the Face - Luke 22:64

Luke the beloved physician wrote how, “the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him, and in chapter twenty-two and verse sixty-four of his book Luke shared, “when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face” where we read:

And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying,

Prophesy, who is it that smote you?

The verse reads, “And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, ... Luke began with the words, “and when they had blindfolded him or “and at the time and moment the men who held Jesus covered His eyes completely”, “they struck him on the face” which means “the men who held Jesus beat, thumped and wounded Jesus in His countenance or front of His head”, “and asked him” or “and inquired of and questioned Jesus”, “saying” which means “uttering, declaring and proclaiming” the following words. Luke shared how the men who held Jesus also “covered” His eyes, beat Him more and then questioned Him with the following words.

The verse goes on to say, “... Prophesy, who is it that smote you? Luke added the word, “Prophesy” which means “speak forth with divine inspirations and predict”, “who is it that smote you” which means “what person beat, thumped and wounded you, Jesus”? Luke shared how the men who held Jesus asked Him to “divinely predict or tell” what person it was who hit Him.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn more about the way the men who held Jesus treated Him. To make matters worse, these men covered Jesus' eyes so He could not see and began to “beat” Him in His “face” while “mocking” Him as a “prophet” and asking, “Who hit you?”. Can we even imagine how this was for God to watch His Son go through these things? Jesus endured these horrific ways so people could be “saved” from their “sins” and live forever with God. As each measure of the manner people treated Jesus unfolds, let all who read these words consider them carefully and receive Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Luke shares how, “many other things blasphemously spoke they against him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
