The Body of Jesus Not Found - Luke 24:3

Luke the beloved physician wrote about the women who knew Jesus, “upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulcher, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse three of his book Luke shared how the women, “entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus” where we read:

And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

The verse reads, “And they entered in, ... Luke began with the words, “and they or “and the women who came to anoint Jesus' body” “entered in” which means “went inside the tomb”. Luke shared how the women who came to anoint Jesus' body with their spices and ointment went inside the tomb where His body was previously laid.

The verse continues, “... and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.” Luke added the words, “and found not the body” which means “and did not come upon, discover or see the physical body” “of the Lord Jesus” or “belonging the One to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate”. Luke shared how the women did not “find” the “Lord Jesus'” body inside the tomb.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how the “physical body” of Jesus was not discovered by the women when they went inside the tomb. We can only imagine their added grief as the one they loved was gone. At this point they had no idea Jesus was risen from the dead, so their anguish must have been dire. God was working His plan of salvation for mankind, and the women were unaware because they were only observing what they could see. God was at work to provide for their salvation. Sometimes God does not give every detail to His plan right away, and this is where “faith and trust” applies. People have an opportunity to have a relationship with God, and those who “believe” in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, even when they cannot see, will be forgiven of their sins and receive everlasting life with God. Let all who read these words “believe”.

Next time Luke shares how the women, “as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
