Jesus Drawing Near the Two Disciples - Luke 24:15

Luke the beloved physician wrote after women told the disciples about Jesus being raised from the dead, “Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulcher; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass. And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs. And they talked together of all these things which had happened”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse fifteen of his book Luke shared as the two disciples, “communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them” where we read:

And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned,

Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.

The verse reads,And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, ... Luke began with the words, “and it came to pass, that or “and it happened and came into existence that”, “while they communed together” which means “during the time and moment the two disciples of Jesus talked and conversed with one another” “and reasoned” or “and discussed, inquired and questioned”. Luke shared during the time when Jesus' two disciples were talking and questioning everything that happened, the following occurred.

The verse continues, “... Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.” Luke added the words, “Jesus himself drew near” which means “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is salvation His own self approached and came close to the two disciples”, “and went with them” or “and traveled and journeyed alongside the two disciples”. Luke shared while the two disciples of Jesus were discussing and “reasoning” about the events surrounding them, Jesus approached and began to travel alongside them.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus joined His “two disciples” as they traveled toward “Emmaus”. We shall discover they did not recognize Him at this point, but we can imagine how they accepted Jesus as a companion in travel even while they were discussing everything they just endured. God is constantly traveling with every person, and by His Holy Spirit, He comes alongside them in their journeys. Though He does not reveal Himself, He is there to draw them to Himself so they may receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Those who are wise will submit to Him and allow Him to forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life with His Father God.

Next time Luke shares as the two disciples, “eyes were holden that they should not know him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
