Are You the King of the Jews? - Luke 23:3

Luke the beloved physician wrote how, “the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate. And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King”, and in chapter twenty-three and verse three of his book Luke shared how, “Pilate asked him, saying, Are you the King of the Jews?” where we read:

And Pilate asked him, saying, Are you the King of the Jews?

And he answered him and said, You said it.

The verse reads, “And Pilate asked him, saying, Are you the King of the Jews? Luke began with the words, “and Pilate asked him or “and Pilate whose name means armed with a spear and was the sixth Roman procurator of Judah and Samaria”, “saying” which means “uttering, declaring, proclaiming and asking”, “are you the King of the Jews” or “do you exist as the leader of the people, prince, commander and lord of the land belonging to the Jewish people and nation”. Luke shared how “Pilate” asked Jesus if He was the “ruler and lord” of the Jewish people.

The verse goes on to say, “And he answered him and said, You said it. Luke continued with the words, “and he answered him” which means “and Jesus responded and began to speak to Pilate” “and said” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “you said it” which means “you, Pilate, affirm, maintain and speak that Jesus is the King of the Jews”. Luke shared how Jesus responded to “Pilate” by telling Him that He was declaring Jesus Himself as the Jews King.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Pilate” asked Jesus directly whether He was the “King of the Jews”. Jesus basically told Him “yes”, and this would confirm what the “religious leaders” were attempting to tell “Pilate”. Jesus is indeed the “King of the Jews” and He is the “King of Kings and Lord of Lords”. Regardless of what others think or do not think about Jesus, He is the “King” who came to die for the sins of the world, and everyone who believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life with God.

Next time we see Luke share how Pilate says, “I find no fault in this man”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
