The
writer of Hebrews shared how Jesus is “able also to save
them to the uttermost that come unto God by him”
because “he ever lives to make intercession for them”.
In chapter seven and verse twenty-six of Hebrews the writer
declared how Jesus is “holy, harmless, undefiled and separate
from sinners” where we read:
For such
an high priest became us, who is
holy, harmless,
undefiled,
separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
The
verse begins, “For such an high
priest became us, who is
holy, harmless,...”. The
writer began with the word, “For”
which means “even as, indeed, no doubt seeing then, verily and
therefore”, “such an high priest”
or “one like unto this chief priest” “became
us” which
means “stood out, was conspicuous and eminent to we who believe in
Him” “who is holy”
which means “undefiled by sin, free from wickedness, religiously
observing moral obligation, pure and pious”, “harmless”
or “without guile or fraud and free from guilt”. Jesus, came unto
us as our “great high priest”,
who is “pure, pious and without fraud or guilt”.
The
verse goes on to say, “...undefiled, separate from
sinners, and made higher than the heavens;”. The
writer continued with the word, “undefiled” or
“unsoiled, free from that by which the nature of a thing is
deformed and debased or it's force and vigor is impaired”,
“separate” which
means “departed and put asunder”, “from sinners”
which refers to “those who are wicked, sinful and stained with
certain definite vices or crimes” “and made”
which means “became, began to be and happened” “higher
than” or “lofty, exalted on
high, uplifted and eminent in influence and honor” “the
heavens” which refers to “the
vaulted expanse of the sky with all things visible in it, the region
where the clouds and the tempest gather or the sidereal heavens where
the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where
God dwells and other heavenly beings”.
When
we meditate upon these words in Hebrews, we realize how Jesus,
“our great high priest”, was “holy, harmless, undefiled,
separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens”. This
makes Him superior to all the other “priests” who were
before Him because none of them had these characteristics. This is
why Jesus is the only way to have access to a relationship with God.
He is our intercessor, and because He is “perfect” in
every way, He is able to provide the means by which we shall enter
into heaven for all eternity.
Next
time the writer shares how Jesus “doesn't
need daily...to offer up sacrifice”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
