The
“Lord” of the
writer of Hebrews and his readers “sprang out of Judah”
whom “Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood”,
and in chapter seven and verse fifteen of Hebrews the writer
declared, “after the similitude of Melchisedec there arises
another priest” where we read:
And it is
yet far more evident: for that after the similitude
of
Melchisedec there arises another priest,
The
verse begins, “And it is yet far more evident:”. The
writer began with the word, “And it is yet”
which means “and the fact that there arose another priest who
sprang out of Judah still, even now, besides and further”, “far
more” or “abundantly and a
great deal exceeding more” “evident”
which means “thoroughly clear and plain”. The writer declared
what he about to state was “abundantly more and thoroughly clear”.
The
verse goes on to say, “for that after the similitude of
Melchisedec there arises another priest,”. The
writer continued, “for that after” or
“because, even as and indeed down from, according to and
throughout” “the similitude”
which means “the likeness and resemblance” “of
Melchisedec” whose name means
“king of righteousness” and was “the king of Salem and priest
of the most high God who lived in the days of Abraham” “there
arises” or “there is raised
up and stood forth” “another priest”
which refers to “an other one who is different and not of the same
nature, form, class and kind”. Because of the imperfection of the
Levitical priesthood, it was necessary to have “a great
high priest” arise form
another tribe who was “like unto” “Melchisedec”.
When
we meditate upon these words in Hebrews, we understand the importance
of the “priest” arising from the tribe of Judah. The
Levitical priesthood was imperfect, and because Jesus was from the
tribe of Judah, He, therefore, fulfilled a different and separate
position than the other priests. Jesus is the only “priest”
who was sufficient and consummate for the salvation of man, and as we
realize the difference arising from the “order of Melchisedec”
makes verses the “order of Aaron”, we shall know we have
discovered the true Savior, Lord and Priest – Jesus.
Next
time the writer shares how this priest was made “not
after the law of a carnal commandment”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
