The
Hebrew writer shared how the “high priest”
chosen before Jesus were concerned for their own lives when they
“offered gifts and sacrifices”
to God on behalf of the people. Jesus Christ actually “died” as
He became the “gift and sacrifice” for our sins, and as a “Son”
of God, He submitted Himself to “learn obedience by the things
which he suffered”. In chapter five and verse nine of
Hebrews we see how this allow
Jesus to become the “author of eternal salvation”
where we read:
And being
made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them
that obey him;
The
verse begins, “And being made perfect,...” The
writer began with the words, “And being made”
which means “fashioned and designed intentionally” “perfect”
which refers to “finished, consecrated, complete, accomplished and
to the end goal”. Jesus was “made”
the “finished and complete” “high priest”
to intercede on behalf of everyone.
The
verse goes on to say, “ ...he became the author of
eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;” The
writer added, “he became” which
means “came into existence, began to be, received being and
happened as” “the author”
or “the cause and causer” “of eternal”
which means “without beginning and end which always has been and
always will be, never ceasing and everlasting” “salvation”
or “deliverance, preservation and safety ” “unto all”
which refers to “to each, every, the whole and everyone” “them
that obey him” which means
“those who harken to , listen to and obey Jesus”. Because Jesus
was the “perfect” “high priest”,
He became the “cause and causer” of “everlasting salvation”
to everyone who will “listen to and obey Him”.
When
we consider these words in Hebrews, we realize the significance of
Jesus' “perfection”. Because He was “perfect”,
He was able to intercede on behalf of all of mankind, and there was
no worry that He might die from His own imperfections. Now “eternal
salvation” is offered to every person who will simply “listen
to” and “obey” His directive to “believe”. May all
who read these words marvel that God would make such a provision for
us, and should there be one reading these words who has not accepted
Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord, today is the “perfect”
day for you to receive your “pre-authored” “eternal
salvation”.
Next
time we see
the writer share how Jesus was “called
of God”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
