Jesus a Minister of the Sanctuary Hebrews 8:2

The writer of Hebrews declared, “we have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens”, and in chapter eight and verse two of Hebrews the writer shares how Jesus is “a minister of the sanctuary” where we read:

A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.

The verse begins, “A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle,...”. The writer began with the words, “A minister” which means “a servant and of one busied with holy things” “of the sanctuary” or “the reverend, worthy of veneration, set apart and exclusive for services and offerings”, “and of the true” which means “the opposite of what is fictitious, counterfeit, imaginary, stimulated or pretended, veracious and sincere” “tabernacle” which refers to “a tent, cloth hut or habitation”. Jesus was made to be the “servant” who was busy “with holy things” in the “sincere and veracious” “habitation” of God.

The verse continues, “...which the Lord pitched, and not man.”. The writer added the words, “which the Lord” or “he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah” “pitched” which means “made fast, fixed and fastened together” “and not man” or “not human beings whether male or female”. God was the one who “constructed and fixed in place” this “tabernacle” and not people.

When we think through these words in Hebrews, we see how Jesus as our “great high priest” entered into the “eternal habitation” of God which was “made” by Him. The “tabernacle” or “tent” constructed among men was “temporary”, and was not permanent in nature or effect. When Jesus entered the eternal “tabernacle” made by God, served as our “minister” and offered Himself as a sacrifice for our sins, He made way for a permanent solution to our separation from God. Jesus “ministered” in the superior “true tabernacle”, and because He did, we may be saved.

Next time the writer tells his readers, “every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
