The
writer of Hebrews demonstrated over and over again how Jesus as our
“great high priest”
was not only “perfect” but also the only “sacrifice” that
needed to be made on our behalf . In chapter eight and verse
one of Hebrews the writer shares how Jesus is now “set on the
right hand of the throne of the Majesty” where we read:
Now of the
things which we have spoken this is
the sum: We have such an high priest,
who is set
on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
The
verse begins, “Now of the things
which we have spoken this is
the sum:”. The
writer began with the word, “Now”
which means “moreover, then, nevertheless and also”, “of
the things which we have spoken”
which is one Greek word “legō”
and
means “thing spoken, called, told, uttered, affirmed, maintained,
exhorted and directed” “this is the
sum” or
“the chief or main point and the principal thing”. The writer
made the following conclusion from the “things”
he shared previously with his readers.
The
verse continues, “We have such an high priest, who is set
on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;”.
The writer added the words, “We
have such” or “the writer
and his readers hold, possess and keep fast” “an high
priest” which means “a chief
of priests”, “who is set”
or “appointed, fixed and settled” “on the right hand”
which means “at the right side or place of honor and authority”
“of the throne” or
“chair of state having a footstool” “of the Majesty”
which means “the greatness and divinity” “in the
heavens” or “in the vaulted
expanse of the sky with all things visible in it or the sidereal or
starry heavens”. Jesus is our “great high priest” who
now “sits” at the position of “honor and authority” with God.
When
we consider these words in Hebrews, we see how Jesus has been given
the position of “authority and honor” at “the right hand of
God”. No other person holds this position, and when we consider
just how magnificent Jesus is, we should easily bow our heads and
hearts to Him. Let us believe and trust in this “great high
priest” who sits on the “right hand of God” in the
place of “honor and authority”.
Next
time we see
how Jesus is “a minister of
the sanctuary”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
