The
Hebrew writer commended his readers for their “work and
labor of love” which they
“showed toward”
God and His “saints”.
He promised that God would not “forget”
their efforts, and in chapter six and verse eleven of Hebrews
we see how the writer has a “desire that every one of you do
show the same diligence” where we read:
to the
full assurance of hope unto the end:
The
verse begins, “And we desire that every one of you do
show the same diligence...”. The
writer began with the words, “And we”
which refers to “the Hebrew writer and his companions” “desire”
or “covet, long for and set our hearts upon” “every
one of you” which means “each,
all and the whole of his readers ” “do show”
or “demonstrate, prove, manifest and display” “the
same diligence” which means
“equal haste, earnestness and interest in accomplishing, promoting
or striving after anything”. The Hebrew writer wanted all of his
readers to continue in and demonstrate the “work” and “labor
of love” they were already
manifesting.
The
verse goes on to say, “ to the full assurance of hope
unto the end:”. The writer
continued, “to the full assurance” which
means “toward the most confidence” “of hope”
which means “faith and expectation of good” “unto the
end” or “till the
termination and the limit at which a thing ceases to be”. The
writer of Hebrews wanted them to “continue in confidence”
ministering to God and His “saints”
with great “expectation” until the “termination” of their
lives.
When
we consider these words in Hebrews, we to should be encourage to
“continue” in our service toward God and His “saints”.
Until the day we take our last breath, we should be about the
business of Jesus Christ and His gospel. These readers of Hebrews
were not only commended for their work, but also inspired to keep
working with “expectation” until the “end”. Jesus
Christ has a purpose and plan for all of us, and this includes
serving God and His people. Let us harken and be obedient to the
exhortation and charge of the Hebrew writer until the Lord calls us
home.
Next
time the writer exhorts his readers to
“not be slothful”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
