The
writer of Hebrews showed how Jesus is “a priest for ever
after the order of Melchisedec”,
and in chapter seven and verse eighteen of Hebrews the writer
tells how Jesus is “a dis-annulling of the commandment”
where we read:
For there
is verily a dis-annulling of the commandment going
before
for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
The
verse begins, “For there is verily a dis-annulling of the
commandment...”. The writer
began with the word, “For”
which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and
therefore”, “there is verily”
or “it has come to pass, arisen and happened truly, certainly,
surely and indeed” “a dis-annulling”
which means “an abolition, putting away and cancellation” “of
the commandment” which refers
to “the order, precept, charge and injunction”. Because Jesus
came after “the order of Melchisedec” as
the “perfect great high priest”,
the law concerning the Levites was cancelled and made null and void.
The
verse continued, “...going before for the weakness and
unprofitableness thereof.”. The
writer added the words, “going before” or
“leading forward and forth and preceding” “for the
weakness” which means “even
as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore infirmity and
feebleness” “and unprofitableness”
or “uselessness and lack of utility” “thereof”
which means “of itself”. The “commandment”
given to the Levites concerning the “priesthood” became “weak”
and “unprofitable” once Jesus came.
When
we think through these words in Hebrews, we see how the
“commandment” given to the Levites concerning the
“priesthood” would no longer be necessary after the birth
of Jesus. When Jesus came, the former imperfect “priests” who
could not offer salvation, He replaced the “weak” and
“unprofitable” “commandment”, and became the perfect
way to salvation. Let all who read these words know and understand
just how great is Jesus Christ's position over and above the former
“commandment”.
Next
time the writer shares how “the
law made nothing perfect”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
