The
writer of Hebrews shared how “there is verily a
dis-annulling of the commandment” concerning
the Levitical “priests”,
and in chapter seven and verse nineteen of Hebrews the writer
tells how Jesus is “the law made nothing perfect” where we
read:
For the
law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did;
by the
which we draw near unto God.
The
verse begins, “For the law made
nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did;”.
The writer
began with the word, “For”
which means “even as, indeed, because, verily and therefore” “the
law” or
“the rule producing a state approved of God” “made
nothing perfect”
which means “made not even one, nobody or aught completed, carried
through completely, accomplished, finished and brought to an end”,
“but”
which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be
written takes precedence over what was just stated” “the
bringing in”
or “the addition and superinduction” “of
a better”
which means “more useful, serviceable, advantageous and excellent”
“hope”
or “faith and expectation of good” “did”
which means “made the way perfect”.
The
verse goes on to say, “by the which we draw near to God”.
The writer continued with the
words, “by the which” or
“through this perfect way” “we draw near to”
which means “join, come to and approach” “God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Jesus
Christ gave us the ability to come close “to God”
though this “perfect”
way.
When
we consider these words in Hebrews, we realize the benefit Jesus
provided by being the “perfect better hope”.
The “priests”, who
were of the tribe of Levi, were imperfect and unable to give
salvation to man, however, Jesus gave man access to God through His
death on the cross. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth,
and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me.”
John 14:6, and because of this, we have access to “draw near to
God”.
Next
time the writer shares how Jesus, “not
without an oath he was made priest”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
