An Unchangeable Priesthood Hebrews 7:24

The writer of Hebrews wrote concerning Jesus' priesthood which is eternal in contrast to“many priests” who “were not suffered to continue by reason of death”. In chapter seven and verse twenty-four of Hebrews he continued to write about Jesus as he shared about His “unchangeable priesthood” where we read:

But this man, because he continues ever, has an unchangeable priesthood.

The verse begins, “But this man, because he continues ever,,...”. The writer began with the word, “But” which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be written takes precedence over what was just stated “this man because” which means “Jesus through and for this cause” “he continues” which means “remains, abides, tarries and doesn't depart” “ever” or “towards, among and unto the evermore, never ending and eternal”. Jesus is eternal.

The verse goes on to say, “...has an unchangeable priesthood.”. The writer continued with the words, “has an unchangeable” or “has an unviolated, inviolable and not liable to pass to a successor” “priesthood” which means “sacredness and priestly office”. Jesus holds a “priesthood” that never changes.

When we think through these words in Hebrews, we see the superiority of Jesus' eternal “priesthood” to the “temporary” “priesthood” held by the Levites. The Levites died and were not raised to life and office again. Jesus died, rose again and intercedes “unchangeably” on behalf of those who believe in, trust in, rely upon and cling to Him. Oh the wonder of our “great, high, unchangeable priest” Jesus, who lives and reigns forever and ever.

Next time the writer shares how Jesus is “able to save to the uttermost”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
