Mark wrote how Jesus said, “verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be removed, and be cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he said shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he said. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them”, and in chapter eleven and verse twenty-five of his book, Mark shared how Jesus says, “when you stand praying, forgive if you have ought against any” where we read:
And when you stand praying, forgive, if you have ought against any:
that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
The verse reads, “And when you stand praying, forgive, if you have ought against any: ” Mark began with the words, “and when” which means “and at the time and moment” “you stand praying” or “Jesus' disciples are persistent, persevere and stand firm making orations, requests and worship to God”, “forgive” which means “disregard, let go, yield up, allow to expire, give up a debt and keep no longer”, “if you have ought” or “whether Jesus' disciple has certain things, anything or something” “against any” which means “down from, through out and toward any certain person”. Mark shared how Jesus referred to a person who is “standing” in “prayer” and remembers they have any “ill-will or bitterness” toward another person. When this happens, they are to “forgive”that person.
The verse continues, “that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.” Mark added the words, “that your Father also” which means “so Jesus' disciples' Heavenly progenitor even so and indeed” “which is in heaven” or “who dwells in the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings” “may forgive you” which means “will disregard, let go, yield up, allow to expire, give up a debt and keep no longer” “your trespasses” or “the sins, misdeeds and lapses or deviations from truth and uprightness of Jesus' disciples”. Mark shared how Jesus said there is a direct correlation between forgiving other people's sins and receiving “forgiveness” for ones own “sins, errors, misdeeds and unrighteousness”.
When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus added another step to receiving what a person wants from God. Jesus basically said, “If you want forgiveness of your sins, forgive others of their sins”. God desires for people to be like Him, and He forgives the sins of those who put their “faith and trust” in His Son Jesus. People “sin” against one another, and Jesus' instruction is to “forgive them”. That is not popular today as people would rather “cancel” others than to “forgive” them, and those who think this way should remember Jesus' words on the cross, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do” (See Luke 23:34). If a person wants their own sins “forgiven”, they must be “forgive” as well.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus says, “if you do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
