Believe What You Desire in Prayer - Mark 11:24

Mark wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be removed, and be cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he said shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he said”, and in chapter eleven and verse twenty-four of his book, Mark shared Jesus says what happens with, “what things soever you desire, when you pray” where we read:

Therefore I say unto you, What things soever you desire, when you pray,

believe that you receive them, and you shall have them.

The verse reads, “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever you desire, when you pray, ...” Mark began with the word, “therefore” which means “wherefore, then and these things being so” “I say unto you” or “Jesus utters, declares and proclaims to His disciples”, “what things soever” which means “whatever of all things” “you desire” or “the disciples of Jesus ask for, beg for, crave and require”, “when you pray” which means “at the time and moment Jesus' disciples make oration, supplication and worship to God”. Mark shared how Jesus concluded His statement about having “faith” and asking God for things with a reference to “whatever” a person desires when they “pray”.

The verse goes on to say, ... believe that you receive them, and you shall have them Mark continued with the word, “believe” which means “trust, think to be true, be persuaded of and place confidence in” “that you receive them” or “that Jesus' disciples will have, lay hold of, claim and possess the things asked for”, “and you shall have them” which means “and Jesus' disciples will obtain, receive, own and possess the things asked for”. Mark shared how Jesus instructed His disciples to “believe” they would “lay hold of” what they ask for, and He promised they would “obtain and possess” those things.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how there is a direct correlation between the “belief” of the believer in Jesus and prayer for “needed” things. Paul the apostle wrote, But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19), and those who put their “faith and trust” in Jesus will align with His will and not their own. God desires to give people what they “desire” as long as their “desires” are in agreement with His, and those who are wise will not only yield their lives to Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, but also submit to His will in everything they want in their lives.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus says, “when you stand praying, forgive if you have ought against any” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
