The beloved physician Luke shared how, “it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered. And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him. But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth. Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it? And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth your hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other”, and in chapter six and verse eleven of his book Luke shares how the Pharisees, “were filled with madness” where we read:
And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.
The verse reads, “And they were filled with madness;” Luke began with the words, “And they were filled” or “and the Pharisees were imbued, supplied and completely furnished” “with madness” which means “with rage, folly and stupidity”. Luke shared how the “Pharisees” were overcome with “rage” when they saw Jesus heal the man with the withered hand.
The verse goes on to say, “and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.” Luke continued with the words, “and communed one with another” which means “and conversed, talked with and communicated with each other” “what they might do to Jesus” or “what the Pharisees could do to the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation”. Luke shared how the “Pharisees” began discussions with one another as to what they could be able to “do” with Jesus.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we discover how the “Pharisees” responded to Jesus' miracle. Rather than worshiping Jesus, these “Pharisees” were “angry” at Him and talked about what they could “do” to Jesus. Jesus knew what these “religious leaders” were thinking all along, and nothing they planned would have any bearing on Him performing anything differently. God's desire is to have a personal relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus, and when they yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” He will help them regardless of what anyone else thinks about Him.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus, “went out into a mountain to pray” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
