Stretch Forth Your Hand - Luke 6:10

The beloved physician Luke shared how, “it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered. And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him. But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth. Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?”, and in chapter six and verse ten of his book Luke shares how Jesus said to the man, “stretch forth your hand” where we read:

And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth your hand.

And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

The verse reads, “And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth your hand.” Luke began with the words, “And looking round about upon” or “and looking all around and at” “them all” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of the Pharisees”, “he said unto the man” or “Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed to the man whose hand was withered”, “stretch forth your hand” which means “extend your physical hand”. Luke shared how Jesus looked at every one of the Pharisees and told the “man with the withered hand” to “extend” it.

The verse continues,And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other. Luke added the words, “And he did so” which means “and the man with the withered hand acted in the manner Jesus said”: “and his hand was restored whole” or “and the physical hand of the man was reconstituted in health to it's original state” “as the other” which means “even like the man's other hand”. Luke shared how the man obeyed Jesus and extended his “withered hand” and it was made whole like his other hand.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn what Jesus did to the “man with the withered hand” in the presence of the “Pharisees”. He looked at every one of them, spoke to the man and the man was healed. We can imagine the look upon the “Pharisees' faces” as they watched the man extend His hand, and since they were looking for a reason to “charge” Jesus with an offense, they now had it. God loves people, and His priority was to bring them “salvation” through His Son Jesus. Regardless of what others think when Jesus desires to work, He will perform that whatever He wants, and those who yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will find He is willing to do “good” to them for all their lives.

Next time Luke shares how the religious leaders, “were filled with madness” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
