Disciples Seating People - Luke 9:15

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus took His disciples, “and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spoke unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing. And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place. But he said unto them, Give you them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people. For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company”, and in chapter nine and verse fifteen of his book Luke shared how Jesus' disciples, “did so, and made them all sit down” where we read:

And they did so, and made them all sit down.

The verse reads, “And they did so, ... Luke began with the words, “and they” or “and Jesus' disciples” “did so” which means “performed and produced the seating of the people within rows of fifty as Jesus instructed”. Luke shared how Jesus' disciples obeyed His command to seat the people in rows of fifty.

The verse continues, “... and made them all sit down.” Luke added the words, “and made them all” which means “and bid and instructed the each, every, the whole and everyone of the people to” “sit down” or “be seated”. Luke shared how Jesus' disciples instructed the people to be seated as Jesus said.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus' disciples complied with His instruction to seat the people in rows of fifty. Jesus had a plan, and although He did not divulge it to His disciples, they were to prepare for what He was about to do. God does not always reveal His plan for our lives, and we should be tuned to Him as He provides instructions step by step to His solution. God desires a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and those who rely upon, cling to and trust in Him will discover how He has a plan and is working it out one step at a time for those He loves.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus, “took the five loaves and two fishes … and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
