The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus permitted the demons name “Legion” to leave the man they possessed and go into swine which were in the field where the man was located. “Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked. When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country. Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid”, and in chapter eight and verse thirty-six of his book Luke shared the people who, “told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed” where we read:
They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed.
The verse reads, “They also which saw it …” Luke began with the words, “they also” or “the people even so and indeed” “which saw it” which means “who observed, notice, discerned and discovered that Jesus cured the man who was possessed”. Luke referred to the witnesses who saw Jesus cast the demons out of the man.
The verse continues, “... told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed.” Luke added the words “told them” which means “brought tidings to, declared, reported and showed the people who came from the city” “by what means” or “how and in what way” “he that was possessed of the devils” which means “the man who was under the power of the unclean spirits and demons” “was healed” or “was saved, rescued from danger and destruction and made well, whole and restored to health”. Luke shared how the message of the ones who were reporting about the demon possessed man's healing was that Jesus cured and made the man whole.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see the response of people that is quite out of the ordinary from normal. Jesus overpowered the demons within this man with His word, and people marveled at Him and wanted others to know what He did. God loves people to acknowledge His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and when a person begins to understand all Jesus did to deliver them from the power of darkness, they will be unable to keep quiet about it. God wants everyone to yield their lives to His Son Jesus, and when they do, may they tell all the world the wondrous works of God performed in their lives.
