The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus said, “When you go with your adversary to the magistrate, as you are in the way, give diligence that you may be delivered from him; lest he hale you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and the officer cast you into prison. I tell you, you shall not depart from there, till you have paid the very last mite”, and in chapter thirteen and verse one of his book Luke shared how people told Jesus about, “Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices” where we read:
There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans,
whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
The verse reads, “There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, ...” Luke began with the words, “there were present” or “there had arrived, were at hand, ready, in store and at command” “at that season” which means “during that due measure or fixed and definite time” “some that told him” or “a few of the people brought tidings, proclaimed, made known openly and declared to Jesus” “of the Galilaeans” which means “pertaining to the people known as “Galilaeans” which were natives of Galilee”. Luke shared about people who spoke to Jesus concerning “the Galilaeans” during that time period.
The verse continues, “... whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.” Luke added the words, “whose blood” or “the Galilaeans' physical blood” “Pilate” which refers to “the sixth Roman procurator of Judah and Samaria who ordered Christ to be crucified whose name means armed with a spear” “had mingled with their sacrifices” or “had mixed with the people's offerings”. Luke shared how the people talking to Jesus told Him how “Pilate the governor” actually “mixed the blood” of “Galilaeans” with their “offerings” to God.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn of a “gross and despicable” act performed by “Pilate” with “sacrifices” which were offered to God. “Pilate” mixed the “physical” blood of the “Galilaeans” with their “offerings” to the Lord. Jesus will respond to these allegations in the next verse, but let it suffice us for now to understand God sees and knows all things, and His purposes are “eternal” in nature. All people are in need of a “Savior” from their sins, and Jesus came to die on the cross to pay the penalty for those sins no matter how horrific they are. Those who are wise will submit themselves to Jesus and bring all their “sins” before Him to forgive, and they shall find He is not only willing but also able to “forgive” and provide everything they need.
Next time we see Luke share how Jesus asks, “Suppose you that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
