Enter in at the Strait Gate - Luke 13:24

The beloved physician Luke wrote, “Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, ...”, and in chapter thirteen and verse twenty-four of his book Luke shared how Jesus was, “strive to enter in at the strait gate” where we read:

Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

The verse reads, “Strive to enter in at the strait gate:” Luke began with the words, “strive to enter in” or “contend, fight, struggle and endeavor with strenuous zeal to make entrance and come in” “at the strait gate” which means “at the narrow access or entrance into any state”. Luke shared how Jesus instructed the people listening to Him to “contend and struggle” to make entrance into the “narrow gate”.

The verse goes on to say, “for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.” Luke continued with words, “for many” or “because, since and on account that a large and massive number of people”, “I say unto you” which means “I, Jesus, utter, declare and proclaim unto the people listening to Him”, “will seek to enter in” or “will strive, crave, demand and endeavor to make entrance and come in”, “and shall not be able” which means “and will be unable, incapable and without power to enter”. Luke shared how Jesus said a “large number” of people will desire to “enter” into the “narrow gate” but will be unable to do so.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we discover a direct instruction from Jesus to “enter in” at the “narrow gate”. Though it is available, many people will not be able to enter the “narrow gate” because they have not yielded their lives to Jesus Christ as their personal “Savor and Lord”. God loves every person, and He has provided the “narrow way” to have a relationship with Him. Those who examine Jesus' “narrow gate” will understand His own words, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, and no man comes to the Father, but by me”. (See John 14:6)

Next time Luke shares how Jesus told about those who, “knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
